- Description: One burger against one slice was never an honest comparison.

| I nearly published a lie this week.I had a tidy little chart comparing a Big Mac with a slice of pizza, and the pizza looked like the sensible choice. Then I remembered that nobody in the history of Friday night has eaten one slice. So here they are counted the way people order them. 🥪 Three slices 111g Carbs +65g More carbs 🍔 One Big Mac 46g Carbs Three slices of a 14 inch pepperoni carry about 111 grams of carbohydrate. The burger everyone treats as the villain carries 46\. The portion did more work than the food did. 🍔 Big Mac 28g Fat \-89% Less fat 🥪 Turkey sub 3g Fat The six inch turkey sub is the leanest of the three by a distance, at 39 grams of carbohydrate and three of fat. It also carries four grams of fiber, which is more than either of the others. 🍔 Big Mac 3g Fiber +1g More fiber 🥪 Turkey sub 4g Fiber Neither number is impressive. Fast food is not where fiber lives, which is most of why these meals move you the way they do.Label and database figures, not medical advice. Chains and recipes vary, so the box in front of you is the one that counts. 🔬 **Where this comes from:** Figures are from published chain nutrition data: a Big Mac at 46 grams of carbohydrate, 28 of fat, 25 of protein and 3 of fiber; a six inch oven roasted turkey sub at 39 grams of carbohydrate, 3 of fat, 20 of protein and 4 of fiber; and a slice of 14 inch pepperoni pizza at about 37 grams of carbohydrate and 14.6 of fat, which is where the three slice figure comes from. Chains reformulate and your local branch builds it by hand, so treat these as the shape of the thing. The food was not the problem. The count was. None of this makes the burger a health food. It makes the portion the thing worth watching, which is a much easier thing to change than what you fancy. Rate your crash How is the hour after your usual takeaway? [😵 Dead. Then try counting the portion rather than changing the order. Keep the Friday night Jackie |
