| I lined up three freezer bars.A chocolate fudge bar, a real fruit bar, and a plain ice pop. Then I turned them all around and read the backs. 🍫 Fruit bar, 69g 13g Sugar +4g More sugar 🍪 Fudge bar, 43g 9g Sugar The bar with fruit on the front carries the most sugar of the three, as it comes out of the box. It is also the biggest bar, and that is most of the reason. Gram for gram the fudge bar is the sweeter one, at 20.9 grams of sugar per 100 against 18.8\. You are not buying a sweeter bar. You are buying more bar. 🍫 Fruit bar, 69g 13g Sugar \-46% Less sugar 🧊 Plain ice pop, 52g 7g Sugar The ice pop is mostly frozen water. It is the least interesting thing in the freezer and the gentlest thing in the box. 🍪 Fudge bar, 43g 1.5g Fat Neither Slows it 🍫 Fruit bar, 69g 0g Fat Neither has enough fat to slow anything down. With these bars the only levers you have are how much sugar is in the one you pick up, how big it is, and when you eat it.Label figures, not medical advice. Brands vary, so check the packet in your own freezer. 🔬 **Where this comes from:** These are label figures: a 43 gram original fudge bar carries 11 grams of carbohydrate, 9 of them sugar, with 1.5 grams of fat. A 69 gram fruit bar carries 14 grams of carbohydrate, 13 of them sugar, with no fat and about a gram of fiber. A 52 gram ice pop is roughly 10 grams of carbohydrate and 7 of sugar. The Center for Science in the Public Interest suggests a frozen treat stay under 13 grams of added sugar. Worth being careful with that comparison: the 13 grams on the fruit bar is total sugar, which includes what came from the fruit itself, so the two numbers are not measuring the same thing and the bar is likely inside that guideline rather than sitting on it. Fruit on the front.Sugar on the back. None of these is off limits. The one to know about is the one wearing a halo. Hot take A fruit bar is not a healthier choice, it is just a smaller dessert [👍 Agree, the halo is nonsense](mailto:contact@thesugarquestion.com?subject=Hot%20take%3A%20the%20fruit%20bar%20halo&body=I%20agree.%20The%20halo%20is%20nonsense%20because%20) [👎 Disagree, fruit still counts](mailto:contact@thesugarquestion.com?subject=Hot%20take%3A%20the%20fruit%20bar%20halo&body=I%20disagree.%20Fruit%20still%20counts%20because%20) Tap one and tell me why. I read every reply and the best argument each way gets printed. Keep the freezer full Jackie |
